Edge of Elsewhere is a partnership project between the 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art and Campbelltown Arts Centre, bringing contemporary artists from Australia, Asia and the Pacific to make work  with communities in Sydney. Launched in January 2010, the second instalment of the three-year Edge of Elsewhere project, part of the Sydney Festival programme, takes place from January 15.
The thirteen artists who have exhibited work in the exhibition have each chosen to collaborate with a different local community throughout the Greater Sydney region in order to create their work. Visitors to Edge of Elsewhere at 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art will be able to view major work by Arahmaiani, FX Harsono and YOUNG-HAE CHANG HEAVY INDUSTRIES. The work by YOUNG-HAE CHANG HEAVY INDUSTRIES and Arahmaiani were commissioned in 2010, while FX Harsono will present a major recent project that is the starting point for a new commission to be exhibited in 2012. The exhibition is spread over two venues between 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art and Campbelltown Arts Centre. It includes  the work of Brook Andrew, Arahmaiani, Richard Bell, Dacchi Dang, Newell Harry, FX Harsono, Shigeyuki Kihara, Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba, Lisa Reihana, Khaled Sabsabi, Phaptawan Suwannakudt, Michel Tuffery and YOUNG-HAE CHANG HEAVY INDUSTRIES. 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art is an initiative of the Asian Australian Artists' Association Inc, established in 1996. 4A is dedicated to presenting contemporary Asian art in Australia and promoting a greater understanding of diverse cultures through the arts. Through its activities, 4A has developed a unique approach to addressing cultural diversity.
