ASEF culture360 is pleased to announce a new media partnership with Borak Art Series 2015, organised by My Performing Arts Agency (MyPaa) in collaboration with the Georgetown Festival in Penang, Malaysia on 29-30 August 2015. This year, Malaysia’s primary regional networking platform for creative practitioners and business leaders from around the world is taking place in Penang, Malaysia, to enable participants to immerse in the glocal’s best arts and culture.

In the words of George Town Festival Director Joe Sidek
"[...]We are very excited to be working together with MyPAA on the Borak Arts Series.  It’s timely that an arts conference of this stature is included into the Festival’s programming.  I believe that programmes that spur intellectual discourses would complement well with all the performances and exhibitions that happen during this month-long festival, making the George Town Festival a celebration for the mind and senses"

In celebration of Malaysia’s chairmanship of ASEAN this year, the theme of Borak Arts Series will be ASEAN and the Future. The conference will bring together artists, presenters/producers, intermediaries, and funders and will include keynote addresses, panel discussions, country and city highlights, round robin sessions, networking platforms and performances.

Further strengthening the content for this year’s conference to aid in bringing local and ASEAN works across borders, MyPAA will be including two brand new components.

  • One-on-One Meetings with local and international presenters including theater programmers and festival directors with an appetite for ASEAN works such as Joe Sidek (George Town Festival), Kristopher McDowell (KMP Artists, USA), Marnie Karmelita (Brisbane Powerhouse), Kate Ben-Tovim (Arts Centre Melbourne), Joseph Mitchell (Adelaide Festival Centre), Andrew Ross (Darwin Festival)

  • Pitchpad ASEAN, a forum for ASEAN creators and arts professionals to share and discover new performing arts projects.  Up to 10 ASEAN submissions will be selected to pitch their new works to a stellar line-up of international festival directors and venue programmers in the presence of more than 170 performing arts professionals.  Successful ASEAN participants will be flown into George Town to aid them in their pitch.

ASEF culture360 will be there together with many speakers such as Rithisal Kang (Amrita Performing Arts, Cambodia), Amna Kusumo (Kelola Foundation, Indonesia), Dr. Joseph Victor Gonzales (ASWARA, Malaysia), Eliza Roberts (Asialink, Australia), Laurent Van Kote (Ministere de la Culture et de la Communication, France), Pang Khee Teik (Malaysia), Grace Chin (Viddsee, Malaysia), Emmanuel Benbihy (Cities of Love, France), Pauline Fan (PUSAKA, Malaysia).
