[caption id="attachment_7228" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Chiten: “The Cherry Orchard” Tokyo, 2008 (Photo: Tsukasa Aoki)"][/caption] Japanese theatre company Chiten presents two Chekhov productions in Moscow in February 2011. CHITEN will present two new plays this year: one is the piece that takes part in international festivals both in Kyoto and Tokyo. One is the repertoire of the Kanagawa Art Theatre which opens in January 2011 and will tour to Biwako Hall. Both plays are compositional works which use letters and novels: texts and words that are not for the performance.  Another project CHITEN turns its effort to is a production in Moscow, Russia. From our Chekhov Series, we will bring “Uncle Vanya” and “The Cherry Orchard” to the Meyerhold Centre in Moscow. Showing the particularity of the direction by Motoi Miura, CHITEN searches the dynamics of language, human body, lighting, sound and video that is the appeal of the theatre performance. Japanese theatre company CHITEN is represented by the director Motoi MIURA. Chiten moved its stronghold from Tokyo to Kyoto in 2005. In the same year, Chiten won Toga Directors’ Competition with Chekhov's “The Seagull”. In 2006, Chiten won the Best Scenography Award at Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre with Miller’s “the Crucible”. From 2007 CHITEN began a project to mount productions of the four great masterpieces of Chekhov, and Miura won the Agency for Cultural Affairs New Director Award for the third production of this series, “The Cherry Orchard”.
