[Kuala Lumpur Exhibition] Textiles of the Malay Peninsula

Kuala Lumpur Exhibition Textiles of the Malay Peninsula

The Kuala Lumpur exhibition, Tradition & Continuity: Woven & Decorated Textiles of the Malay Peninsula, showcases more than 50 Malay textiles from the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM) collection. The exhibition will run until June 30th 2013.

The exhibition is also dedicated in memory of Malaysian cultural icon and advocate, Allahyarhamah Azah Aziz, whose passion has drawn attention to the beauty and importance of traditional Malay textiles and dress.

Lending their expertise to the exhibition and its accompanying publication, are two Malaysian textile experts, Yang Mulia Raja Datin Paduka Fuziah Binti Raja Tun Uda, the first Director General of the Malaysian Handicraft Association (MHDC) and founding member of the ASEAN Handicraft Promotion and Development Association (AHPADA), as well as Associate Professor Dr. Norwani Md. Nawawi of Universiti Teknologi MARA, a renowned textile designer, innovator and educator.

Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia

In addition, a special segment of the exhibition will show how the visual aesthetics of Malay textiles have inspired designers from the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts, London.

Also on display will be a selection of contemporary Malay textile masterpieces, crafted by renowned Malaysian textile artisans. The Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia will also be conducting a series of educational programmes throughout the duration of the exhibition.
