MuseumsFutures - 2nd Martin Roth Symposium online

Organised by ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen) in cooperation with re:publica, the second Martin Roth Symposium "MuseumFutures" will take place from 7 to 11 September 2020, combining a range of interactive digital activities in a theme week, broadcast from Museum für Naturkunde Berlin. Participation is free and online.

The Martin Roth Symposium aims to biennially bring together thought leaders from the cultural, academic, artistic and political sectors to share ideas and future scenarios.

This year’s five-day symposium asks critical questions about the museum’s future. It intends to identify innovative strategies which, from a global perspective, are needed to establish a space of democracy through architecture, analogue and virtual formats, local and international exchange, and alternative international (art) histories. Over five days, top international experts from these sectors will unpack and bring to light challenges and visions in the fields of museum and culture.

During a digital re:publica theme week, top international experts will shed light on challenges and visions for museums and culture in the 21st century.

In Sprint input sessions and detailed Deep Dive discussions with the audience, they will explore the event’s subject from five different angles:
  • Museums and Futures
  • Museums and Architecture
  • Museums and Power
  • Museums and Entertainment
  • Museums and Failure
In doing so, the symposium will identify innovative strategies which, from a global perspective, are needed to establish a space of democracy through architecture, analogue and virtual formats, local and international exchange, and alternative international (art) histories.

Each day of the theme week, the MuseumFutures sessions will be streamed between 17.00 and 20.00h. Afterwards, recordings will be available online.

For details, please check www.ifa.de/mars. During the theme week, the link to the streams will be published there, too. Participation in this digital event is free and requires no registration.
