National Museum of Korea: 2018 Fellowship Programme

In an effort to shed light upon Korean Studies, the National Museum of Korea, an ASEMUS member, offers its seventh annual fellowship, entitled the 2018 Museum Network Fellowship. The programme is designed to promote the advancement of museum-related Korean studies overseas. The fellowship programme will provide  participants with valuable opportunities to gain field experience in Korean culture through comprehensive lectures on museum-related Korean studies, workshops, research and site visits around the country. Topics of lectures and workshops could include the following:
  • Buddhist art of Korea
  • Paintings of Korea
  • Ceramics of Korea
  • Ancient architecture of Korea
  • Modern and contemporary art
  • Archaeology of Korea
  • Conservation science
A detailed schedule of activities during the fellowship is included within the programme's application form, available on the National Museum of Korea's website.

Eligibility

Given the programme’s purpose, applicants must be non-Korean citizens. Candidates should neither hold any relevant previous, concurrent and subsequent fellowships or academic research positions provided by any Korean institutions. Desirable candidates are overseas curators of Korean or Asian Studies working at museums or museum-related institutions, or researchers who published thesis or articles on Korean or Asian Studies between 2013 and 2017. This is a bilingual programme in which proficiency in English is required, and fluency in Korean is also a plus for participation.

Conditions

Participants will be provided with round-trip airfare (economy class), accommodation, regional tour expenses, traveller’s insurance fees and basic daily expenses for the duration of the programme (1-14 July 2018). Fellows are required to submit a research paper, which could later be presented in a two-day colloquium session, attended by scholars, curators and researchers in museum-related institutions.

Applications

Candidates should submit a completed application form, an updated CV, a statement from their current employer (or a statement of studentship) and copies of certificates for previous research activities. The deadline for applications is 27 February 2018.
