NEMO Annual Conference 2015 | Czech Republic

The 23rd Annual Conference of the Network of European Museum Organisations (NEMO) will be held in Pilsen, Czech Republic, one of this year's European Capitals of Culture, on 5-7 November. The topic chosen for the event is 'Re-visiting the Educational Value of Museums - Connecting to Audiences'. Education is a well-developed field in museums, still they have to work with and respond to ever-changing needs and demands from their audiences. Who are they, what are their needs and how can museums better connect to them? NEMO’s annual conference offers the opportunity to discuss such questions with decision-makers from museums and museum organisations from all over Europe and connect directly with the EU level  involved. Next to projects from all over Europe, the conference will invite speakers from all over the world. What are the environment museums in Ibero-America working on when developing their educational profile? What does a “Magnetic Museum” in the US do better than the others? Among the many featured speakers is Fionnuala Croke, Chair of ASEMUS, who will present the network's experience in supporting training of museum educators in Asia and Europe. The first day's programme will take place at Beseda, originally built as a cultural space for concerts, balls and theatre in 1901 and which has become a well-used venue for many events in the city. The second day will be dedicated to practical work and insights: participants are invited to join one of the working groups during their meeting and sign up for one of three workshops in the afternoon. The workshops give answers to and training on questions such as: How do you become a good audience developer? How can you digitally engage with your community? How do I organise a museums advocacy day for my politicians? In addition, the Czech Creative Europe Desk was invited to the conference in order to give participants the opportunity to learn about EU Culture funding strands and projects.
