The Prince Claus Awards are presented annually to individuals and organisations for their outstanding achievements in the field of culture and development and the positive effect of their work on their direct environment and the wider cultural or social field.

On 11 December 2013, HRH Prince Constantijn will present the Prince Claus Awards at a ceremony in Amsterdam. Laureates from Pakistan, Indonesia and China are among those receiving the prestigious awards this year.

Principal Prince Claus Award goes to Egypt’s poet of the people, Ahmed Fouad Negm. Negm is known for his outspoken and critical poetry, and is much loved throughout the Arab world. Ten other artists, thinkers and organisations from countries such as Pakistan, Paraguay, Benin, Mexico and Indonesia are also being honoured for their pioneering work in culture and development. For the first time ever, all 11 laureates will be present at the ceremony in Amsterdam.

The additional ten recipients of the Prince Claus Award are: Zanele Muholi (Photographer, South Africa); Naiza Khan (Visual artist, Pakistan); Teater Garasi (Performing arts lab, Indonesia); Alejandro Zambra (Writer, Chile); Orquesta de Instrumentos Reciclados Cateura (Youth orchestra, Paraguay); Oscar Muñoz (Visual artist, Colombia); Idrissou Mora-Kpaï (Documentary filmmaker, Benin); Lu Guang (Photographer, China); Carla Fernández (Designer/Cultural historian); and Christopher Cozier (Cultural activator/Visual Artist, Trinidad & Tobago).
