None

Envision Sound 2018-2019 is open for applications from eligible composers. This is the second cycle of the British Council's popular education programme for composers from Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan who want to further their skills in working with film and the moving image.

This unique programme of practical skills development, mentoring and networking for professionals from the film and music industries is made possible by the British Council’s partnership with the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Centre in Ukraine.

The British Council and the Dovzhenko Centre will offer additional grants to support the further development of projects initiated during the programme, which will be selected by the mentors.

Dates and location: Kyiv, 18-23 February 2019.

Application deadline: 28 October 2018.

The programme offers a rich environment of presentations and practical workshops, case studies by professional composers, discussions, evening screenings and performances and networking. Participants will work side by side with mentors to explore the possibilities and challenges of writing music for the moving image.

The mentors for the 2018-2019 programme will be the British film composers Nainita Desai and Daniel Patrick Cohen.

When the workshops have ended for the day, Envision Sound offers an evening programme open to the general public. The famous UK composer Neil Brand will be a guest speaker, and will present a screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s film Blackmail (1929) with his recorded score. He will also give a public talk for film and music professionals about what film directors are looking for in a composer and how the two professions work together.

Participation in the Envision Sound programme is free of charge (for the selected participants)

Participants from other countries and from outside of Kyiv will have their travel and hotel accommodation provided by the British Council.
