Germany | NRW Dance Research residencies

None

The NRW KULTURsekretariat is offering 6 to 12-week residences in Dusseldorf and Essen for performing artists in the fields of dance, choreography and performance who want to carry out theme-related but production-neutral research.

ANNOUNCEMENT #9 & #10 – DANCE RESEARCH NRW - two dance residency opportunities:
Organised in Essen (Cultural Office of the City of Essen, Festival 638 Kilo Tanz) and Düsseldorf (tanzhaus nrw, Hans Peter Zimmer Foundation), Germany.

The theme of Tanzrecherche NRW #9 in Essen is inspired by the motto “Underground”, exploring the presence of hidden and invisible things below the surface of a city that is most renowned for its industry and mining. In fact, its history is full of significant events that date back as far as the Middle Ages. What lies beneath the old winding towers and abandoned coal heaps?

The theme of Tanzrecherche NRW #10 is “Dance_Added_Value_Creation”. The starting point for the research is a former baking factory in Düsseldorf, where the Hans Peter Zimmer Foundation currently supports projects that tackle the humanist and ethical responsibility of art. 1 to 4 artists can carry out a cross-genre research project here and in the tanzhaus nrw that focuses on people dependent on economic dictates.

Periods of residence in Düsseldorf and Essen: between September and November 2012. The results of the research will be presented at an official event.

On offer: rent-free accommodation for 1-2 people (in Essen) and 1-4 people (in Düsseldorf), personal support on site, mentoring and guidance, state-wide access via the NRW KULTURsekretariat to cultural institutions, research organisations or experts and up to Euro 7,500 depending on the nature and scope of the research. If the research leads to productions, the Kultursekretariat intends to support any performances put on in North-Rhine Westphalia.

[NB: Travel is NOT offered as part of the residency]

Panel of judges: Roman Arndt, Robert Steijn, Melanie Suchy.

The judges will make their decision by the end of May 2012.
Submissions, containing a description of the research project, references and a CV will only be received online until 15 April 2012.
