Within the framework of the exhibition ‘The Politics and Pleasures of Food’ (September 21 – November 17, 2013), the HALLE 14, centre for contemporary art in Leipzig, Germany, will be awarding a residency fellowship to a visual artist. The programme invites artists from around the world to work for three months (September 1 – November 31, 2013) in a studio at the world-famous Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei.

We encourage applicants to propose process-based and performative projects that are fitting to the exhibition theme and to the residency period, which will be concurrent with the exhibition.  However such projects are neither a requirement nor a guarantee for the success of the application. Not the medium, but rather the quality of the proposal will be the deciding factor for the jury of independent art experts.

The fellowship recipient will receive a monthly stipend of 1,000 Euros, a one-time material fee of 500 Euros, travel expenses up to 500 Euros, a studio space, and a flat.

Application deadline: August 5, 2013 (On this day the application must have reached us via post or email).

As an independent art centre, HALLE 14 is a place for the presentation of contemporary art as well as a space for reflection and communication. As a non-profit organization, HALLE 14 serves the public interest in its artistic commitment. This goal is accomplished through projects such as exhibitions, an art library, the art education programme Kreative Spinner, the scholarship programme Studio14 and the Lounge14 series of talks and discussions. In addition, there are exhibitions of the partners of HALLE 14.

The five-storey industrial building HALLE 14, with a total of 20,000 m², is located at the site of the former Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei (Leipzig Cotton Spinning Mill). Since the beginning of the 1990s, artists, gallerists and others involved in creative work have built a productive and lively community at this location, providing an inspiring environment for HALLE 14.
