London | Tate call for Brooks International Fellowship 2022

Tate, in collaboration with Delfina Foundation, invites applications for the Brooks International Fellowship Programme, which is now in its sixth year.

In 2022 the Brooks International Fellowship Programme offers two, six-month fellowship opportunities.

• Brooks International Fellowship 2022 in Tate Research and Interpretation: Tate encourages applications from candidates working globally in art history or museology to collaborate with Tate’s Research and Interpretation teams to examine Tate’s collection interpretation and the ways it has perpetuated racism and marginalised histories. Research into this material could be undertaken through a variety of approaches, including historiographic, autoethnographic and artistic methodologies.
• Brooks International Fellowship 2022 in Tate Modern Curatorial: Tate encourages applications from candidates working on art in Africa and the African diaspora, and particularly welcomes those based on the African continent, to investigate networks of pan-African Modernism in the second half of the 20th century. Using Tate’s growing collection of modern African and African diaspora art, the research will draw upon ideas relating to decoloniality in the context of arts and culture, histories of the Black Atlantic, cultural studies, art and social practices.

During their fellowships, the Brooks Fellows will be part of a Tate team, actively participating in gallery projects and discussions, with special access to Tate’s programme, collection, staff and wider networks.

The Fellows will reside at Delfina Foundation, where they will contribute to its own programme by presenting on their research or practice to a range of audiences and participating in its public programmes.

The successful candidate will receive:

• A six-month Fellowship commencing in April 2022, based at Tate in London, UK, with supported travel to Tate sites and other UK cultural institutions.
• Participation in the residency programme at Delfina Foundation, including accommodation at its residency in central London.
• Economy return flights, visa support, local travel card, a stipend and materials budget.
• Access to Tate’s collection, archive, staff and networks.
• Opportunities to present on their practice at Tate and Delfina Foundation events, and contribute to wider activities at both organisations.
• Opportunities to collaborate and convene with Tate and Delfina Foundation colleagues and exchange with wider UK partners in the British art sector.
