Japan | Kamiyama Artist in Residence Program

None

Applications are invited from visual artists and environmental land artists for the Kamiyama Artist in Residence (KAIR) programme in Japan. Three artists will be selected for the 11-week residency running 23 August - 8 November.

Travel, living costs and production/exhibition costs will be provided for the selected artists.

Creating “Global Kamiyama” is the main purpose behind the KAIR Project. The organisers' hope is that the artists will produce works full of originality, influenced by the experience of spending time amidst the timeless nature of Kamiyama, deep in the Japanese countryside, and inspiration from interacting with the friendly local people. Through the works created by the artists as they come into contact with the tangible and intangible ‘God’s Mountain’ (the meaning of ’Kamiyama’), we hope to be able to discover what impact ‘encounters with the unknown’ has upon the artists and the community itself.

The programme is open to applications from artists worldwide, including Japan (applicants must be able to communicate in English or Japanese).

In 2012, artists from Vietnam, Sweden and Japan were selected

See website to download application forms and guidelines. A one-off application fee of $50 is payable.
