The Neumünster Abbaye is one of the city of Luxembourg’s most important historic sites and it is nowadays a multicultural. As part of the network of Centres Culturel de Rencontres all over Europe, it organises events of all kinds valorising the encounters of different cultures. The CCRN features multiple exhibition halls and a multidisciplinary events programme. As an example for this symbolic dimension, it is the home of the Institute Pierre Werner which unites Germans, French and Luxemburgers in the same project. It is an European institute for promotion of cultural diversity through intellectual exchanges and debates, named under a former Ministry of Finances and Cultural Affairs that contributed highly for the European integration project.
The Centres Culturel de Rencontres are basically defined as places of culture and exchange. They are forming a network in prestigious areas all over Europe (in Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia and the Czech Republic).
Historical monuments which lost their primary function are restored to be used for ambitious intellectual and artistic projects, which fully respect the history of the site and contribute to secure their future by a new existence, sustained by ideas and creation.
It is the vocation of these centres to provide public, cultural and social services. Therefore they are embedded in the social and political life of their region, striving to design and implement new concepts of cultural action. Their facilities have been created to welcome artists and producers in decent settings, as well as cultural associations, congresses, seminars, meetings or study days of private companies. They also have training responsibilities within a transnational network.
