Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival

The Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival brings to its audiences some of the best creative and artistic documentaries of the moment. The festival puts a strong emphasis on films from Central and Eastern Europe and promotes these exceptional documentaries at an international level.

The axis of the festival program is the four competitions: Opus Bonum for world documentaries of innovative themes and high aesthetic quality; Between the Seas presents high quality films from the countries of Central and Eastern Europe; Czech Joy surveys the newest Czech filmmaking; and the Fascinations section focuses on the marginal or even hybrid form of the documentary film — experimental documentary. Further program sections introduce the current events at the Czech as well as the international documentary scene. Translucent Beings are the retrospective profiles of remarkable filmmakers.

The Jihlava festival is annually accompanied by the biggest section for film industry in Eastern Europe: The Institute of Documentary Film organizes the East European Forum, the meeting of East European documentarists with producers from big European televisions. Further on the festival also cooperates on the organization of East Silver, the market for documentary films from Central and Eastern Europe. The docalliancefilms.com online portal is an all-year festival where films are available for download.
