National Norwegian Touring Theatre

National Norwegian Touring Theatre (Riksteatret) is Norway’s national touring theatre. For more than 65 years they have produced theatrical performances and sent them on tour.

Their task as a national institution is to provide a local theatre service to audiences living in the districts. Riksteatret stages regular performances at 70 Culture Houses all over the country. Each year they send up to 12 productions on nation-wide tours, staging somewhere between 400 and 500 performances for a total audience of up to 150,000.

Riksteatret operates as a branch of the Ministry of Culture. The repertoire spans from the great classics to contemporary drama, figure theatre and dance. One of Riksteatret’s main focuses is on theatre for children. They collaborate closely with the rest of the Norwegian theatre world and present their own productions and collaborative productions as well as productions they buy from Norwegian and international institutions.
