Open call for Mecal Pro - Barcelona International Short and Animation Film Festival

Call to submit your film/animation/music video to the 23rd edition of Mecal Pro – 2021 Barcelona International Short and Animation Film Festival. 

Submission deadline: 15th December 2020.

Mecal Pro, the Barcelona International Short and Animation Film Festival, will celebrate its 23rd edition. With more than 5,000 short films submitted annually, Mecal has become one of the most important festivals of its field in Spain. Due to its international scope and quality programming, Mecal regularly benefits from grants awarded by various Spanish public cultural institutions.

Mecal is strongly committed to promoting the exhibition and dissemination of audiovisual creations in the short format, not only with the public, but also in having creators and distributors meet through different activities. Mecal is also devoted to foster emerging talent, by holding events and awards specially aimed at young creators. In this sense, it also works as a short film dissemination network, organising screenings both at a national and an international level, collaborating with festivals, embassies, and institutions around the world.

The following prizes will be awarded: 

1. International Grand Prix to the Best Short Film of the International Section.
2. Animation Grand Prix to the Best Short Film of the Animation Section
3. Filmin Oblique Grand Prix to the Best Short Film of the Oblique Section
4. Documentary Grand Prix to the Best Short Film of the Documentary Section
5. Videolab Award for the Best Spanish production
6. Moonlight Award to the Best Spanish Fiction
7. ALMA Award to the Best Spanish Script
8. Young Jury Award to the Best Short Film of the Oblique Section
9. Audience Award to the Best Short Film of the Animation section
10. El Periódico de Catalunya Audience award to the Best Short Film of the Documentary section
11. Animation Students Award to the Best Short Film of the Animation section
12. Prix de la Critique
13. Avisual Pro Award to the most innovative short film of the Barcelona Film Schools
14. Plançó Award to the best short film of the Catalan Animation Schools
15. Shorts TV Award
