Catalonia–Japan Year 2025

The Government of Catalonia and the Consulate General of Japan in Barcelona launched the Catalonia–Japan Year at the Joan Miró Foundation, featuring a concert by Japanese pianist and composer Mine Kawakami.

The celebration of Catalonia–Japan Year aims to increase the visibility of both regions on the international stage, strengthen relations in the face of global challenges, and promote the exchange of best practices in strategic sectors.

The relationship between Catalonia and Japan has been strong since the first Japanese investments in Catalonia in the 1970s. Since then, economic, institutional, cultural, and educational ties between the two regions have been strengthened and consolidated. Proof of this is the existence of the Catalonian Government's Japan Plan since 2009, and the establishment of the Government Delegation in Japan.

The celebration of the Catalonia–Japan Year will mark a turning point in these relations and a new step towards intensifying cooperation at the institutional level.
