DISCE - Developing Inclusive and Sustainable Creative Economies - online event

The Final Event of research project DISCE – Developing Inclusive and Sustainable Creative Economies will take place in a hybrid format on Thursday March 3rd, in Brussels, Belgium and online.

On this occasion, the researchers and project leaders of DISCE will present outputs and engage in policy discussions around the implications of the results.

The DISCE project, which ends in June 2022, focuses on reassessing the role of CCIs as contributors to growth, quality employment, competitiveness, and to the attractiveness and social cohesion of cities and regions across the EU.

The overall theme of the final event is “A call for more Inclusive Creative Economies”.

The event will develop around three dedicated thematic panels:

Presenting the results of co-creation activities in DISCE: Stakeholder engagement for more inclusive creative economies.
Presenting DISCE Conclusions: A call for reshaping research, policy and practice for more inclusive creative economies.
A policy framework in support of inclusive creative economies: Looking beyond Covid-19.

The Final event will take place from 14:00 – 17:30 CEST as a hybrid event.

The panelists will be gathered in the Aloft Hotel in Brussels, Belgium, and the panels will be broadcasted online for the wider Creative Economies stakeholders to engage with and available via DISCE online channels.

The DISCE – Developing Inclusive & Sustainable Creative Economies project is set to improve and enhance the growth, inclusivity and sustainability of the CCIs in the EU. Overall, the ambitious objectives of DISCE are:
– To support the development patterns of the CCIs within the EU through improved indicators on their performance;
– To contribute to the economy through research on career perspectives, skills development, new business models and inclusive growth;
– To re-shape understanding of what ‘inclusive and sustainable growth’ consists of in this context, shifting the CCIs (and CCIs policy) towards strategic goals of ‘cultural development’ that encompass both GDP and human flourishing.

The DISCE project started in January 2019 and has run for a period of 3 years, with an extension for an additional 6 months. Its lead coordinator is the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship within the Turku School of Economics (TSE) of the University of Turku (UTU) from Finland. The other research members of the consortium are the King’s College London (KCL) from the United Kingdom, the Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI) from Italy, and the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) in Riga, Latvia. The consortium is completed with a Belgian based non-profit consultancy Culture and Media Agency Europe aisbl (CUMEDIAE) and the European network of non-governmental cultural centres based in Sweden Trans Europe Halles (TEH), who together assumed both the communications and stakeholder engagement within the Cultural and Creative Industries.
