Artemisia Fellowship 2026 in film
The Artemisia Fellowship, initiated by Jilu Commune, supports nonfiction film works and is now calling for applications from filmmakers, artists, and interdisciplinary creators from China and beyond. The fellowship encourages bold and adventurous practices that respond to the complexities of the contemporary world.
Now in its second edition, the 2026 Artemisia Fellowship features two main application tracks:
- Documentary & Nonfiction Features
- Expanded Media & Spatial Narratives
The fellowship welcomes projects in development, production, and post-production.
Documentary & Nonfiction Features
Supports documentary and nonfiction feature-length projects (minimum 60 minutes), including author-driven documentaries, observational documentaries, hybrid documentaries, animated documentaries, and other expanded nonfiction forms. This track supports nonfiction-oriented film projects at the stage of research, development, production, or post-production.
Grants: RMB 50,000–RMB 200,000
Expanded Media & Spatial Narratives
Supports artistic practices grounded in engagement with reality, including experimental moving image, animation, artist films, sound art, installation, performance, immersive media, computational media, and other interdisciplinary forms.
Grants: RMB 20,000–RMB 100,000
In addition to financial support, selected projects may also receive access to workshops, one-on-one mentorship, and ongoing creative support throughout their development.
Eligibility
To be eligible, the submitted project must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- at least one principal creator is a citizen of China;
- at least one principal creator resides in China;
- the production company is a legally registered entity in mainland China;
- the primary filming and production locations are in China.
