Japan | Residency for Southeast Asian Creators 2026
Artist-in-Residence Vietnam Network (AiRViNe), in collaboration with Asterisk in Residence Kyoto (*** in Residence Kyoto), is inviting applications for one participant from Southeast Asia to join a residency and research stay hosted in Kyoto, Japan, for one month between September 2026 and March 2027.
Rather than focusing exclusively on artists in the conventional sense, the programme is particularly interested in practitioners whose work supports, connects, and shapes cultural ecosystems. However, they also warmly welcome individuals working in crafts, food, gardening, and other fields that fall outside conventional artist categories.
A selected participant is expected to:
- organise at least one public programme to showcase their research and activities during their stay,
- participate in the public programmes organised by *** in Residence Kyoto during their stay, and
- corporate with interviews etc to participate *** in Residence Kyoto’s PR activities.
The programme welcomes applications and nominations from practitioners across three main focus areas:
- Mediators, coordinators and facilitators
- Craft and cultural heritage practitioners
- Everyday and place-based practitioners

Eligible applicants must be between 25 and 45 years old.
