Latvia | Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre international symposia 2026

Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre in Latvia invites artists to apply for various symposia in Daugavpils or Viļaka in 2026. 

Within the framework of the centre’s artist-in-residence programme, international symposia are organised each year in different artistic disciplines, including painting, printmaking, textile art, ceramics, photography and sculpture. Artists from different parts of the world come to Daugavpils for these symposia. As stipulated in regulations, each participant donates to the Rothko Museum at least two works created during the symposium, thereby adding to the museum’s art collection and gaining the right to list the Rothko Museum in their biography as a place that holds some of their work.

There are the following symposia:

–    14th International Latgale Graphic Art Symposium (23 February – 8 March 2026), deadline 2 January 2026

–    CERAMIC LABORATORY 2026: 14th International Ceramic Art Symposium (26 April – 16 May 2026), deadline 31 January 2026

–    VALDIS BUŠS 2026: 10th International Painting Plein Air (20–30 July 2026), deadline 30 April 2026.

–    MARK ROTHKO 2026 International Painting Symposium in Viļaka (18 September – 3 October 2026), deadline 1 June 2026

What they provide:

–    Catering and accommodation in Daugavpils or Viļaka

–    Studio space (individual studio for each artist)

–    Basic materials and tools

–    Publicity 

–    Recreation (guided tours in and around the city, site visits to local art and culture institutions)

–    Exhibition
