UK-Malaysia Seasonality of the Anthropocene project

The Seasonality in the Anthropocene project (March to July 2026) is calling for applications from UK- and Malaysia-based artists for an online exchange and an in-person exhibition, with travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This is a new initiative that brings together artists and environmental researchers to co-create artistic works exploring how seasons are changing, and what these changes mean. A total of 2 UK artists and 5 Malaysians artists will be selected.

Through this collaboration, the project aims to bridge environmental art, activism, and academia, opening new avenues for communicating and advocating for climate and environmental action while (re)discovering the deep interconnectedness of humans and nature.

The project is looking for proposals that:

• Represents shifting seasons in the Anthropocene and what it means to you or your community
• Have a strong element of art-science collaboration

The project will bring together artists, activists, and environmental researchers to create ten artworks that reflect different kinds of seasonal change, grounded in real-world research. There will be online networking events and asynchronous ‘match-making’ activities to facilitate artists, activists, and researchers collaboration.

There will also be support for commissioned artists to travel to Kuala Lumpur for the exhibition launch and a knowledge-sharing workshop in June 2026.

Eligibility

This is open to artists of all disciplines, age 18 or over, based in the UK or Malaysia.

Support

A 530 GBP stipend, be part of the art-science network, collaborate with an environmental researcher to co-create artwork, commission-free sales, opportunity to travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for the exhibition launch and knowledge-sharing workshop.
