2nd Belgian Korean Comics Exhibition

None korea belgium comicsThe Korean Cultural Center in Brussels is hosting the 2nd Belgian Korean Comics Exhibition till 31 October 2015. With a shared passion for comic strips, Korea and Belgium join together again on a comics exhibition. The exhibition is accompanied by a conference, a film screening, a drawing show and a participation in the Brussels Comic Festival. In an exhibition review by AFP, the connections between comic traditions in Belgium and Korea are explored: Belgium has long been a leading exponent of the traditional printed comic book, but a recent exhibition of South Korean "webtoons" has caused soul-searching in the land of Tintin and The Smurfs. The animated online comics, which are wildly popular in South Korea, have made some Belgian artists wonder whether they might be falling behind the times after a long period of global success. The Belgian-Korean Comics Exhibition running until the end of October at the Korean Cultural Centre in Brussels offers a chance to compare the old and the new forms, with clips of webtoons being shown on screens.
