Artist and audiences travel from all over the world to experience the unique summer fun of Adelaide Fringe – the festival that literally takes over the city, capital of South Australia.
The 2012 program features a record-breaking 923 events including 250 comedians, 130 theatre shows, 170 concerts, 100 cabaret shows and 110 art and design exhibitions. Additional categories include circus, dance, special events, film and puppetry. There are 100 international acts from Germany, Hungary, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Poland, France, Russia, Japan, Philippines, Taiwan, China, Korea, Canada, USA, Argentina, South Africa and the UK. Director and Chief Executive Greg Clarke said an objective of Adelaide Fringe 2012 was to promote all 325 venues throughout the city, starting with the Fringe Parade on February 24 which will be “one massive celebration” featuring a cavalcade of floats and artists, camels, hotrods, projections, animation, horses, fireworks, music and even a giant dog. Adelaide Fringe will produce and support large-scale outdoor events throughout the festival including: Adelaide Fringe Street Theatre Festival – International street performers take over the city for four days and nights; Fringe in the Mall – The iconic Fringe Caravan will return to showcase fantastic Fringe acts daily; The Spirit Festival – celebrating the very best in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. Adelaide Fringe 2012 will present a significant opportunity to Australian artists by hosting 100 festival professionals through the Honey Pot program including producers and programmers from the Asia Pacific, UK and UAE who will scour the 24-day event this summer looking for talent to take home. Funding to support the 2012 Honey Pot program has been raised through the Australia Korea Foundation, the Australia China Council and Arts SA through their Building Pathways funding program. Services offered to visiting producers and programmers includes travel, accommodation, tickets, networking and a personalised schedule across cabaret, comedy, circus, dance, film, music, theatre, puppetry and visual arts.Similar content
