ASEF culture360 supports Estonian Animation Film at SGIFF | Singapore

None The Unpredictable World of Estonian Animation estonian-animated-shorts-2000s ASEF culture360 is delighted to support the Estonian Animated Shorts as part of the 2016 Edition of the Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF), from 23 November to 4 December 2016 in Singapore. The history of Estonian animation dates back to 1931, where The Adventures of Juku the Dog is known as the first Estonian animated short film. The studios behind some of the more prominent animated films are Nukufilm and Eesti Joonisfilm. These studios are simultaneously linked to the history of Estonian animation and they produce puppet animation and traditional cell animation respectively. Since the Soviet Union era till present time, the diversity of Estonian animation brings forth a colourful and sometime abstract take on life. The unique characteristics of Estonian animation often consist of strange and unexpected elements and dark humour. This programme aims to introduce an overview of the history of Estonian animation, pre and post independence. The distinctive world of these stories will bring forth a surreal and unexpected experience. The programme will be introduced by Ülo Pikkov, an Estonian animator and docent at the Estonian Academy of Arts Animation Department. estonian-animated-shorts-70s Delve into the curious world of these animated shorts made during Estonia’s pre and post independence. This programme provides an overview into the history of Estonian animation and the distinctive world of these stories. Supported by ASEF, both sessions will be presented by Ülo Pikkov, filmmaker and associate professor at the Estonian Academy of Arts.
