Asia-Europe Cultural Festival 2021: White Gold Phare
A circus-theatre performance highlighting the influence of Cambodian and French culture and arts
Circus-theatre 22 - 26 November 2021 Online |
A global context allows each country to inspire and to be inspired and to influence and to be influenced in areas of economic growth and arts and culture. France has long history linked with Cambodia since its colonialization; Cambodia has been influenced by the French arts and culture in architecture, music, language, play and dressing. And many will learn French as a second language. French people have also been curious about and been inspired by Cambodian arts and culture.
Hol, the Cambodian textiles produced through resist dyeing, capture this intricate cross- cultural influence of colonization with the apparent “blurriness” in the patterns–representing how the fibres of society have been dyed before being woven that the distinctions and who influenced who become blurred. The show of fine circus-theatre acts will present the link, inspiration and influence between Cambodian and French culture and arts. The show is adapted from an existing performance to align with the theme of the ASEM festival by the talented Phare Circus artists.
