Asia-Europe Cultural Festival: 2024 Closing Curtain | Programme announced!

Following the main programme held in Italy, the Asia-Europe Cultural Festival will be back in Singapore for its official Closing Curtain on 27 – 29 September 2024.

Together with Dance Nucleus and Asian Film Archive, ASEF Culture will present 4 events spanning contemporary dance, music, film and multidisciplinary exhibition with artists from Germany, Italy, Malaysia, Myanmar and Singapore

The Festival Closing Curtain will open on 27 September with the screening of Pyo Chit Lin (My Darling), one of the very few Myanmar classics still in existence and the country’s earliest surviving colour film from 1950. The film was restored by the Asian Film Archive in collaboration with Memory! Cinema Association and will be showcased with live music composed by artist Kent Lee (Malaysia) using various mediums of music.

On 28 to 29 September, a performance-installation act titled Last Portrait, will be staged by Ashley Ho (Singapore), Domenik Naue (Germany) and Pietro Marullo (Italy) at the Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay. This artistic collaboration developed through the artists’ residency in Indonesia and Italy, questions how documentary matter from seemingly separate narratives can meet, to facilitate a generative and healing space through performance.

On the same days, WRECK – List of Extinct Species, an interdisciplinary performance mixing movement, sound and visual art circling around the metaphor of a shipwreck will be presented as well. It is designed to encourage the presence and participation of local communities. Italian artist Pietro Marullo will work with 5 local artists from Singapore to present this contemporary dance performance.

Lastly, a multidisciplinary exhibition will be showcased from 28 – 29 September as part of VECTOR#5 – Psychogeographies, a mix of contemporary performance and time-based art, which can be described as psychological speculations on the effects of geography and the environment on the human psyche.

The Asia-Europe Cultural Festival is dedicated to fostering cultural dialogue, innovation, and artistic collaboration between Asia and Europe. The Closing Curtain in Singapore will be the last event for 2024, presented in partnership with Dance Nucleus and the Asian Film Archive.
