Call for papers: Performing Arts in Museums

Performing Arts in Museums The conference "Through the Stage to the Museum. Performing Arts in Museums: Practices, Audiences, Cultural Mediation" will take place in Paris, France, between 18 and 20 November 2015. The event will consider what museums provide to the performing arts, in terms of place, practices and purposes. It will consider dance, theatre, music, story-telling, puppetry and circus arts in the museum area from the perspective of reception theories and with regard to the cultural mediation offers, involving interpretation, promotion and education resources and programmes. What are the aesthetics issues of the insertion of live performance practices — original creations, staging, revivals, transpositions, theatrical or choreographed guided tours — in the museum spaces, for the visitors / audience, for the curators and for the artists? Four perspectives will be considered: temporalities; spaces; bodies and objects; and voices. A call for papers is open until 1 May 2015. Proposals may approach the issues raised from a variety of scientific disciplines, including museum studies, performance art studies, literature, arts history, economy or sociology. The conference is organised by Pauline Chevalier (University of Franche-Comté), Aurélie Mouton Rezzouk (University of Rouen) and Daniel Urrutiaguer (University Lumière Lyon 2).
