Cities of Film website launched

Cities of Film is a website created and coordinated by the UNESCO Cities of Film Network. Here you can find out about each City of Film and the ongoing work, projects, events, festivals, collaborations and news from each city.

UNESCO Cities of Film span the globe, from Japan to Ireland, bringing this international and thriving sector closer together, encouraging partnerships and the exchange of ideas. Each City of Film brings a unique film heritage defined by our varied histories, filled with great minds and inspiring innovators who led cinema and the moving image to what it is today.

18 Cities of Film worldwide work together, and with Fellow Cities in the Creative Cities Network, to realise a common objective: placing creativity and cultural industries at the heart of local engagement and prioritising cross-border cultural collaboration.

Created in 2004, 246 cities currently make up the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. The Network is designed to encourage greater partnerships between UNESCO and between creative cities around the world that have worked to establish a strong reputation and foothold in the creative sectors.

Bradford was made the first UNESCO City of Film in 2009, and ever since, cities from around the world have aspired to receive this lifelong accolade. One of seven artforms within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), each City of Film commits to innovative thinking and creative development.

Visit the UNESCO Creative Cities Network for more information on the Network and how to apply to be a Creative City.
