COMCOL Annual Conference 2015 | Korea

COMCOL Annual Conference 2015 The 2015 Annual Conference of the International Committee for Collecting (COMCOL) of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) will take place in Seoul, Republic of Korea, between 26 and 31 October. Entitled "Collecting and Collections - the politics and praxis of social, economic and intellectual sustainability", the event will be organised by COMCOL in cooperation with ICOM Korea and will be hosted by the National Folk Museum of Korea, an ASEMUS member. The mission of COMCOL involves deepening discussions and sharing knowledge on the practice, theory and ethics of collecting and collections (both tangible and intangible) development. COMCOL is a platform for professional exchange of views and experiences in the broadest sense. The COMCOL Annual Conference 2015 will explore the meaning of sustainability in terms of the composition and structure of collections. What specific methodological approaches towards collection development does sustainability require? The following specific aspects will be examined:
  • What does sustainability mean for institutional collections?
  • What does sustainability mean for private collections?
  • What is the impact of collecting on the sustainability of ecosystems and communities?
  • What are proper (sustainable) methodologies of documenting the present in a participatory way?
Registration for the conference is now open. Those interested in attending the COMCOL Annual Conference 2015 should register by 31 August. For additional information about this event, please visit http://comcolseoul.weebly.com/
