culture360.ASEF.org is delighted to be the media partner of the Mongolian Film Institute’s Golden Ger International Film Festival (GGIFF).

In 2013, Ikhbayar Urchuud (Festival Director of GGIFF and Founder of Altan Khalis Association), launched the first Underground Film Competition in Mongolia, with an aim of cultivating an interest in experimental films amongst the locals whilst encouraging young filmmakers to experiment with filmmaking methods beyond the conventional approaches.

Over the years, the competition evolved into GGIFF, the second biggest film festival of Mongolia. GGIFF provides a platform for aspiring young filmmakers to challenge themselves and showcase their talents to a growing audience of film-lovers. Eventually, the film festival aims to establish a creative filmmaking scene in Mongolia.

In 2015, the festival expanded to include international filmmakers and all genres of film and will continue doing so. The main part of this film festival is the competition section for short films made by Mongolians and international filmmakers.

The festival also screens feature films by invitation. The previous honorary guests and jury members were celebrated filmmakers such as Golden Bear and Golden Globe winner Fatih Akin, Golden Bear winner Wang Quan'an, Peter Tscherkassky, Eve Heller, Boo Jungfeng, Artur Żurawski, Ella Manzheeva, Julian Radlmaier and industry professionals such as Kim Young-woo, Maxine Williamson and Bernadette Schramm.

This year, the Mongolian Film Institute will host the 8th edition of GGIFF online, from 4 to 7 June 2020.
