Denmark | 1st ARoS Triennial - THE GARDEN

None In 2017, ARoS Aarhus Art Museum in Denmark presents the first triennial entitled THE GARDEN – End of Times; Beginning of Times. The exhibition extends over two entire galleries at the museum as well as carefully selected locations in the urban landscape, and a coastal stretch along the bay bordered by woodland just south of the city. This creates an art zone spanning more than four kilometres. The triennial takes place over 2017 in three phases, with the main contemporary works The Present and The Future opening on June 3rd.   • The Past (at ARoS) 8 April to 10 September 
  • The Present (urban space, Aarhus) 3 June to 30 July 2017
  • The Future (at the coast) 3 June to 30 July 2017 

The Past at ARoS examines the landscape and man’s relationship with nature seen from an artistic and ideological perspective in a gigantic exhibition on 2 floors. The Past features works by Claude Lorrain, Nicolas Poussin, Franz Rösel Von Rosenhof, Richard Wilson, John Constable, Nicolai Abraham Abildgaard, J.C. Dahl, Edvard Munch, Vilhelm Hammershøi, Nikolai Astrup, Emil Nolde, Henri-Edmond Cross, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Max Pechstein, Max Liebermann, Richard Mortensen, Asger Jorn, Yinka Shonibare, Thomas Struth, Agnes Denes, Per Kristian Nygård, Helen Mayer Harrison and Newton Haarison, Damien Ortega, Meg Webster, Pamela Rosenkrantz, Diana Thater, Mark Dion and Joan Jonas.

The Present will feature works by Cyprien Gaillard, Oscar Lhermitte, Elmgreen & Dragset, Ismar Cirkinagic and Fujiko Nakaya.

The Future along the coast south of Aarhus explores the artistic reaction to environmental changes. It features works by Doug Aitken, Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), Hans Rosenström, Katarina Grosse, Rirkrit Tiravania & Nikolaus Hirsh, Tue Greenfort, Anssi Pulkkinen and Taneli Rautiainen, Simon Starling, Max Hooper Schneider, Alicja Kwade, Henrik Menné, Pia Sirén, Hans Rosenström, Rune Bosse, EB ITSO, Meg Webster and Superflex.
