DSC Prize for South Asian Literature shortlist
The prize brings South Asian writing to a new global audience through a celebration of the achievements of South Asian writers, and aims to raise awareness of South Asian culture around the world.
About the prize
The DSC Prize for South Asian Literature celebrates the rich and varied literature from, and connected to, the subcontinent. The prize will award US$ 50,000 to the winner starting from 2011. The award will recognize writers of any ethnicity writing about South Asia and its diasporas. The books competing for the prize must be an original work of fiction published during 1st April 2009 and 31st March 2010, written in English or translated into English.
The shortlisted entries for the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature are:
- Amit Chaudhuri: The Immortals (Picador India)
- Musharraf Ali Farooqi: The Story of a Widow (Picador India)
- Tania James: Atlas Of Unknowns (Pocket Books)
- Manju Kapur: The Immigrant (Faber & Faber)
- Neel Mukherjee: A Life Apart (Constable & Robinson)
- HM Naqvi: Home Boy (HarperCollins India)

The winner of the first DSC Prize for South Asian Literature will be declared at the DSC Jaipur Literature Festival in January 2011. The DSC Jaipur Literature Festival is considered Asia's leading literature event, a celebration of national and international writers which also encompasses film, music and theatre.
The shortlist was announced in October at the DSC South Asian Literature Festival in London, Britain's first major festival celebrating South Asian literature.
