Exhibition: "Angkor: Exploring Cambodia's Sacred City"
The exhibition "Angkor: Exploring Cambodia's Sacred City", presenting masterpieces of the Guimet Museum of Asian Arts, Paris, can be visited at the Asian Civilisations Museum, Singapore, between 8 April and 22 July 2018. The exhibition results from the collaboration between two ASEMUS members.
About the exhibition
The civilisation of Angkor left an artistic legacy that lives on most spectacularly in its architecture and sculpture. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the archaeological complexes of Angkor are today acknowledged as great masterpieces. But until the late 19th century, they were virtually unknown to the outside world. In this exhibition, visitors will see rare Khmer sculptures, along with French drawings, photographs, and memorabilia that tell the story of the French encounter with Angkor and its sensational emergence onto the international stage.Additional activities
To accompany the exhibition, the Asian Civilisations Museum has scheduled an array of programmes and talks related to Angkor and contemporary Cambodian culture, including the Angkor Encore Festival (25–27 May) highlighting Cambodian performing arts. Likewise, the "Exploring Angkor" symposium, involving several panels, talks and roundtables involving curators, archaeologists and researchers, will take place on 18-19 May. Several curator tours and children and family workshops are also planned.Further information
