Treasures of Ancient China - Bronzes rituals of Meiyintang collection

From March 13 to June 10, 2013 the Guimet Museum, Paris, presents one hundred Chinese archaic bronzes, masterpieces from the prestigious collection Meiyintang.

It is the first time this collection of Chinese bronzes, dating from the second and first millennia BC, will be shown in France.

"Contrary to what occurred in other bronze civilizations, Chinese bronzes had no utilitarian purpose. In China, in the nineteenth century BC, these bronzes were the preferred instruments of rites offered to the spirits of ancestors to seek their power, especially on the battlefield."
