Exhibition: "Joseon Korea: Court Treasures and City Life" | Singapore
The Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM), Singapore, an ASEMUS member, hosts a new exhibition entitled "Joseon Korea: Court Treasures and City Life", which can be visited until 23 July 2017.
The exhibition presents treasures from the National Museum of Korea, the National Palace Museum of Korea, and the Daegu National Museum, which are displayed for the first time in Singapore.
The main focus of the exhibition is the Joseon era (1392-1897), Korea's last dynasty, spanning some 500 years. Actual furniture, fashion, and decorative arts from that period are presented in the exhibition, which also addresses how the legacy of the Joseon's courtly culture and vibrant city life lives on in today's South Korea.
"Joseon Korea: Court Treasures and City Life" will be accompanied by programmes and talks relating to Joseon Korea and contemporary Korean culture; as well as a work by South Korean contemporary artist Ran Hwang, best known for using pins, buttons, and thread to create large-scale installations.
Several tours involving curators Kan Shuyi and Dominic Low, enabling visitors to get exclusive behind-the-scenes insight into Korean history, have been planned. Daily guided tours will also take place.
Among the other activities planned in the context of the exhibition are family and children's workshops and film screenings, as well as the Seoul Awesome! Weekend Festival, which will be held on 17-18 June.
