The
Muzium & Galeri Tuanku Fauziah (MGTF) at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), an ASEMUS member, presents an exhibition entitled "
Malay Architecture: The Resilience of Tradition, from Origins to the Contemporary", from 14 January to 28 February 2019.
Malay architecture, or the indigenous identity of this region, has undergone evolutions, mutations, and innovations, with resilience, across centuries. Now, USM and MGTF in collaboration with main partner IIUM - supported by UUM, USIM, and DBP as well as contributions from UKM, UiTM, and UTM - present a visual journey that traces the milestones of this evolution. Touching on the
multiple functions, facets, and forms of Malay architectural identity - from origins to the contemporary - the exhibition presents such an evolution. In doing so, the exhibition reveals a
multi-dimensional definition and understanding of the climatic, cultural and national significance of Malay architecture and related topics such as urbanism, applied arts, and design education.
Furthermore, a
lecture series addressing different themes related to Malay architecture will be held weekly throughout the duration of the exhibition.
