[Exhibition] Wedding Celebrations of Laos’ Ethnic Groups, Luang Prabang
From Courtship to Kinship: Wedding Celebrations of Laos’ Ethnic Groups provides a rare insight into the distinct wedding traditions of the Lao people and several of the country’s ethnic minorities such as the Hmong, Tai Phuan and Mien.
It features unusual artefacts, such as a ‘wedding crown’ of the Kim Di Mun made of pure silver and human hair, stunning documentary photography of rituals and ceremonies, and explanations of the lore and symbolism of wedding customs in Laos.
This exhibition opened at The Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre in Luang Prabang on 15 September 2011 and will be on display for one year.Exhibition information is displayed in Lao and English, and translations are available free of charge from the ticket desk, in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish.
