The Technicolor Foundation for Cinema Heritage (France) in partnership with the  Bophana Centre and the Cambodia Film Commission are organizing the first International Film Heritage in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on 1-9 June 2013. MEMORY! International Heritage Film Festival will combine film programming with a number of workshops and conferences around the theme of film restoration.

In the spirit of cinema heritage events and festivals like Cannes Classics, Il Cinema Ritrovato in Bologne, Lumière festival in Lyon or All the memory of the world at La Cinémathèque française, this new festival is the first of its kind organised in Southeast Asia. While the Technicolor Foundation for Cinema heritage and the Groupama Gan Foundation for cinema are well known organisations operating in the field of cinema heritage worldwide, the Bophana Centre in Phnom Penh, has been working  since the early 90s, on making accessible to the public  the collection of the images and sounds of the Cambodian memory, while providing training opportunities for Cambodians in the audiovisual professions. As part of the culture360.org platform, the website film.culture360.asef.org aims at supporting activities such as the Memory Film Festival Heritage that promotes exchanges and capacity building between young film professionals. MEMORY! will offer not only screenings but a series of conferences and workshops around the themes of preservation and restoration, presentation of various film Archive Projects in Asia and programming of heritage films. Valentina Riccardi, project manager of ASEF’s Cultural Exchange Department will present ASEF’s activities in film during the Forum on ‘Preservation and Restoration’ on 2 June.
