Indian Ceramics Triennale
Jawahar Kala Kendra in Jaipur, in collaboration with the Contemporary Clay Foundation, presents the first Indian Ceramics Triennale: Breaking Ground, from 31 August to 18 November 2018.
The international event involves 47 artists, a symposium, 3 film makers, 3 master classes, childrens workshops and a book launch.
Exhibiting artists are coming from India, UK, Japan, Switzerland, Germany, France, Korea, Singapore, Australia and Russia (among other countries).
An Artist-Led Initiative Breaking Ground, the first iteration of the Indian Ceramics Triennale has been conceived and driven by a six-member core team of mid-career ceramic artists – Anjani Khanna, Madhvi Subrahmanian, Neha Kudchadkar, Sharbani Das Gupta, Reyaz Badaruddin & Vineet Kacker.
The Contemporary Clay Foundation (initiator and co-host) is a not for profit organization set up to promote ceramic art and support practitioners through exhibitions, workshops, international and national exchanges and residencies. The organization aims to build informed audiences for national and international ceramic art through lectures, workshops, and exhibitions as well as to elevate clay-based practices in the country. The Indian Ceramics Triennale exemplifies the vision of the Foundation in pursuing creative excellence.
Jawahar Kala Kendra (popularly known as JKK) - the venue and co-host - is a not for profit arts and culture center in Jaipur, which endeavors to preserve and promote Indian art on an international level.
“Jawahar Kala Kendra is excited to be pioneering India’s first ever Ceramics Triennale. From a historical perspective, there has been a major turn in the field of ceramics worldwide. In a country like India where ceramics and clay have always been considered as an artisanal craft, the Ceramics Triennale will increase visibility and allow ceramics to be appreciated as an art form in its own right.”
POOJA SOOD – DIRECTOR GENERAL, JAWAHAR KALA KENDRA
