Manifesta 15 Barcelona Metropolitana

From 8 September to 24 November 2024, Manifesta, the European Nomadic Biennial, will come to Barcelona and the wider metropolitan region for its 15th edition.

Manifesta is the European Nomadic Biennial, which operates every two years from a different Host City. It was conceived in the early 1990s as a biennial of contemporary art, responding to the new social, cultural and political reality that appeared in the aftermath of the Cold War.

Manifesta 15 will take place over 12 weeks, across 12 cities in the metropolitan region of Barcelona. Manifesta 15 aims to reshape the relations between art, culture and society by investigating and catalysing socio-ecological change. All whilst being in continuous dialogue with both local communities and international cultural producers.

Spanning an area of more than 3,000 km2, Manifesta 15 Barcelona Metropolitana will bring new perspectives to Barcelona and its wider metropolitan region in 2024. Each of the biennial's 12 cities is grouped into one of three clusters: Balancing Conflicts, Cure and Care and Imagining Futures. They form the foundation of the biennial programme for Manifesta 15, intending to decentralise the cultural infrastructure.

There are 85 participants over 16 venues. For the selection of participants, Manifesta 15 prioritised those whose practices intersected with ecological and climate justice, community engagement and radical pedagogical approaches. They will suggest proactive ways to empower local communities to become active parts of their surrounding environments.
