Mumbai | Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2014
The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, now in its 16th year, is a community celebration of the arts within one of the most beautiful and historic precincts of Mumbai, The Kala Ghoda Art District. The Festival has grown into a hugely successful event, drawing over 150,000 people from all over the city and visitors to 350 events over 9 days.Funds raised from the festival go towards the restoration and upkeep of local heritage, benefiting several historic buildings and institutions in the area. KGAF features the very popular heritage walks around the local district, literature, film, food, children's events, dance, music, visual arts, street events, theatre, urban architecture and more... The Festival takes place in the streets and multiple arts venues of the central district of Mumbai. Today, the area is a hub of cultural activity and a throbbing urban node with institutions like the Jehangir Art Gallery, Max Mueller Bhavan, Bombay University, Prince of Wales Museum, National Gallery of Modern Art, Institute of Science, Bombay Natural History Society, Elphinstone College, and David Sassoon Library around it, all within comfortable walking distance of each other. Apart from the entertaining pursuits of art and education, the area also offers a host of famous city restaurants and cafes, along with smaller art galleries, designer boutiques, and many culture-related activities and venues - the most popular one being the annual Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, where many artistes, performers and craftspersons gather every February.
