Nam June Paik Library in Yongin, Korea
The Nam June Paik Library opened earlier this year on the first floor of the Nam June Paik Art Center and serves as a resource place for Nam June Paik's body of work, related art movements, as well as other publications on art and culture.
The library's mission is to reach out to individuals who are interested in art by providing spaces and documentation, while also offering a venue for local communities and academic researchers. The interior was designed by Korean architects Nahyun Hwang + David Eugin Moon as a multi-functional structure that redefines the relationship between users and content as less linear, but rather more random and dynamic.
The library's collection currently counts approximately 3,000 books and exhibition catalogues, 500 periodical subscriptions, and over 200 audio video materials. It covers a range of topics that includes Media Art, Fluxus, Aesthetics, Art in general, Philosophy, and Social Science.
The designing and construction of the library were made possible by the City of Yongin and Gyeoggi Province Government's Small Library Fund.
