NEMO Webinar: "Museums for All?"

The Network of European Museum Organisations (NEMO) is organising a webinar entitled "Museums for All? Going beyond ramps and toilets to embrace access and inclusion for deaf and disabled people". Facilitated by Michèle Taylor, it will take place on 16 May.

The webinar will explore the "Social model of disability" as the basis for a practical approach to welcoming people with hearing impairments or disabilities into museum institutions. It will look at examples from across the world that demonstrate how people with disabilities are excluded and - more importantly - how barriers have been removed.

Participants are expected to leave the webinar with ideas of straightforward and inexpensive actions that they can take to improve the experience that visitors with disabilities have in their museums, as well as the tools for planning more major changes.

Michèle Taylor has more than 25 years of experience working in arts and heritage, focusing particularly on disability issues. Michèle set up her own business in 1992 to work on that edge where disability and ‘the mainstream’ meet, training and advising organisations on making their practices, policies and premises inclusive for people with disabilities. Since then, her practice has broadened to take good account of changes in the legislative approach and in recognition of equality and diversity principles as a whole.

As with other NEMO webinars, participation is free of cost and open to museum professionals and other persons interested in the relevant topic. The "Museums for All?" webinar is organised by NEMO in collaboration with MICC - Media Integration and Communication Centre and NEMECH - New Media for Cultural Heritage. Previous registration is compulsory and should be done by 13 May. For additional information and registration, please visit http://www.ne-mo.org/our-actions/trainings/webinars.html
