Open Space 2011 | Tokyo
Open Space includes a gallery, a mini-theater, and a video archive called "HIVE." Since its inauguration in 2006, the space has been open to the public free of charge, presenting new exhibitions annually. In addition to exhibiting media art by prominent local and overseas artists and newcomers—and other ongoing projects—the space incorporates a themed exhibit area in which the changing relationship between media, arts and society is documented. By displaying artist’s works and also providing explanations of their social, cultural, and ideological background through artist interviews and other material, the Open Space aims to introduce the bond between "media technology and artistic culture" in a simple and easy-to-understand way, constituting a pillar of ICC activities. It also serves as a place where the possibility of a new communication culture based on artistic expression using advanced technology can be demonstrated.
