Peat on Earth spoken word films between the UK and Malaysia

The project Peat on Earth uses spoken word films to explore the biodiversity and cultural importance of peatland habitats in the UK and Malaysia.

Peat on Earth is a poetic and visual collaboration between poets Matt Sowerby and Kimchi Lai, and filmmakers Studio 91 Media and Factual TV, across the UK and Malaysia. The project uses spoken word films to explore the beauty, biodiversity, and cultural importance of peatland habitats in both countries.

Supported by the British Council’s Connections Through Culture grant, the project seeks to challenge perceptions and reframe how these landscapes are understood.

The film is being screened at:

  • Manchester Museum, UK, 20-21 September 2025
  • Sunway University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 6–11 October 2025

There is also an online Q&A with the custodians of Foulshaw Moss Nature Reserve and Kuala Langat North Forest Reserve, moderated by the filmmakers on 27 September 2025.
