Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space 2023
The Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space (PQ) is taking place in Prague from 8 to 18 June 2023. The main location will be the Holešovice Market, and numerous parts will also be hosted in the National Gallery and The Academy of Performing Arts.
Since 1967, PQ presents the best works in scenography with emphasis on the self-sufficiency of the artistic field. The theme of the 15th edition of PQ in 2023 is RARE; in the sense of unique and raw realities that artists create. PQ 2023 will present art springing out of ideas, materials, artistic approaches, and design practices that connect to the human level from within the environment.
The Exhibition of Countries and Regions section of PQ captures the essence of scenography and performance design, its progress and development, new techniques and strong authors, through the lens of numerous cultures, social and artistic perspectives. The artist exhibiting in this showcase are appointed by the representing curator/team from the countries and regions.
This year there are exhibitions from many Asian and European countries, such as: Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Mongolia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Thailand and the United Kingdom.
In addition to the in-person event, PQ also operates as a platform, with several year-round projects, extending its legacy and outreach beyond the activities of the festival, which takes place once every four years. These projects are continuous, international, and educational and reflect PQ as a platform which connects artists, students, professors and professionals.
