Roots | a contemporary visual arts exhibition

None ROOTS is a contemporary visual arts exhibition exploring the relevance of cultural heritage in relation to the rootedness of an individual to his/her homeland Venue: Old School @ Mount Sophia, Singapore Duration: 2nd – 8th March 2012 The exhibition will take place from 2nd – 8th March at Old School @ Mount Sophia, displaying a diversity of contemporary work by a group of 5 visual artists in Singapore. A talented collective, Dr. Kay Kok Chung Oi, Justin Lee, Gerson Gilrandy, Kai Chong and Fendy Ibrahim seek to highlight the rising concerns over the painful erosion of cultural heritage, a jarring result of a fledging nation's rapid progression into the league of the First World. Reflecting on overlapping themes such as the deafening loss of one’s own traditions, muted stories buried deep in history, and threats confronted by a vibrant traditional community in the apologetic face of urban development, the artists set out to pose questions on the relevance of one's cultural heritage in a modern society driven by economic priorities. So come down and fill up the blanks left by the artists on these controversial issues of heritage, that has always yielded more questions than answers. Address: Old School 11, Mount Sophia Singapore 228461
