
Endorsed by some key organisations in the UK heritage sector such as the Historic Royal Palaces, the
Open Palace Programme is
a 21-day, hands-on experience for students and emergent heritage professionals from around the world.
The
next edition of the programme will take place between 21 June and 11 July 2015. It will allow participants to visit some of England's most significant palaces and stately homes, working with and learning from the consummate professionals who care them.
The programme is open to
emergent professionals, paid or voluntary, working in a heritage field or environment; as well as to
postgraduate or
final year undergraduate students of a heritage related subject like museum studies, historic preservation, buildings conservation, history, architectural history, archives and information studies, design history, cultural tourism, archaeology. public history, art history or arts and cultural administration.
Applicants should be able to speak English.
The Open Palace Programme allows participants to
build their knowledge and skills from direct experience, and provides them with bespoke careers advice, with a focus on the UK heritage sector.
A parallel initiative, the
Open Book Programme, which focuses on Jane Austen heritage sites in the counties of Hampshire, Dorset and Somerset, takes place between 18 June and 11 July 2015.
